On Thursday, June 29, Uttar Pradesh got its first professional football club, as conglomerate company RDB launched ‘Inter Kashi’, a club based out of Varanasi. Notably, the most populous state of India has had several clubs before, but Inter Kashi are the first national club from UP as the club owners have bid for a direct entry to I-League, the 2nd division league of Indian football.
Interestingly, Inter Kashi have got a solid backing, as European giants Atletico Madrid, Inter Escalades, and Gerard Pique-owned FC Andorra have partnered with the Varanasi-based club. These European giants will eye to unearth great talents, groom them and scout some of the best Indian talents, who could put India on the global map in near future.
It also marks the return of Atletico Madrid in Indian football as they previously had minor stakes in Atletico de Kolkata before Lucknow Super Giants owner Goenka group bought the club.
